Description
Its Latin name is Uncaria tomentosa. It is a climbing tree that can reach a height of 30 meters. Originally from South America, it grows in woods with abundant light. The bark, leaves and roots are used because they contain pentacyclic oxindolic alkaloids (isopteropodine, pteropodine, mitrafiline, hirsutine and others), polyhydroxylated triterpenes, indolic alcohols, organic acids, flavonoids, tannins, procyanidins and bitter constituents, among others. Popularly used for rheumatic problems, gastritis, peptic ulcers, diabetes, intestinal inflammation, viral infections, asthma and menstrual disorders.
